Forensics Technology Ahead of the Pack

As the world of commerce, finance, and management becomes increasingly digital, so does the opportunity for digital crime. We are entering a generation where users do the majority of their banking online, not to mention the wealth of exchanges of personal information. Digital crime requires a means of investigation the world has not yet seen. The digital world is so vast, moves and changes so quickly, and is so vulnerable to attack that investigations today need to be complete, advanced, and up to date like the Dell computer forensics system.

In computer forensics, one of the most important challenges faced is the issue of unfathomably large amounts of data. From this central issue stems a variety of other issues. Data acquisition is a major problem; what data is usable evidence, and what is useless junk? This is a determination it is often difficult to make in the field, so the focus is on acquiring as much of the data as possible while still maintaining consistent, legal records of everything, as well as on simplifying analysis as much as possible. Gone are the days of putting a series of pictures of evidence up on large boards that police films love so well. Forensic data analysis is a complex and extensive process that requires proper collaborative access to data for an entire team. Multiple members of a forensics team should be able to work together on a project without sacrificing efficiency or, more importantly, security. The final step in this process is the effective recall of data when and where you need it. Whether it's the preparation of data for the presentation of a case with digital evidence, or simply the storage of evidence that is required by law, a forensics system should only simplify, and not complicate, this process.

Dell computer forensics is a system that integrates solutions for all of these problems. It is a comprehensive solution to the increasingly complicated problem of digital forensics, including integrated aspects of the system suited to each of the tasks required of a digital forensics team. Many forensic solutions offer individual parts of the process, but a good deal of time, data verifiability, and system safety are lost in the process of moving from one to the other. To keep ahead of the digital forensics pack, the key is a comprehensive solution to deal with every aspect of the process.

When students apply for credit cards and sign on the contract, credit card issuers assume that they have gone through every detail. Even though majority of the authority rests with the issuers, you need to understand your basic rights over the use of student credit cards. Fair Credit Billing Act bestows certain rights on students. While exercising such rights, students need to ensure they do not go against the rules as stated in the act.

Disputable rights

Any action students wish to take has to be in order and within a specified timeframe. Students may come across problems, while using credit cards, most of which are concerned regarding purchases. As such, they own the right to dispute over some issues. The disputes mainly arise in billings you receive from merchants. What if someone has unauthorized access to student credit cards? To tackle such complicated issues, Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) offers certain disputable rights to students.

Nature of Disputes:

Billing: Often you, as credit card holder, may have a dispute with merchants for goods, which either you do not receive or are not in good condition. If this happens to you, follow the steps as below:

1. Within two months from the date of receipt of first statement that lists the dispatched item, contact your credit card issuer in writing. Use separate address for billing inquiries. In addition, make sure you mail the letter including your name as it appears on your account. Mention the account number, complete information of the item you wish to dispute and your specific need, be it rectification of mistake from the (merchant) delivery end.

2. Sign the letter before sending across. Preserve a copy of it for future reference. Any supporting documentation you send such as receipt, maintain a copy of it too. Stick to mailing method, which proves you have disputed over anything with the credit card issuer and it acts as certified mail. Accordingly, expect a notification from the issuer within thirty days, since the day of sending the mail. The issuer will then investigate into the matter in question and get back to you.

While investigation is on, you neither make payment for the disputed item nor for any charges that may arise due to it. You are free from any potential liability, if the case is in your favor. Otherwise, you are responsible for paying as mentioned in the cardholder agreement.

Charges without official authorization

These problems are often times associated with student credit cards. For student credit card holders, their responsibility for disputing unauthorized charges is restricted to $50. It may seem uncomfortable to pay $50 for you. Many credit card holders suffer heavy losses, as many cardholders are falling prey to identity theft.

Disputes normally arise as with the use of student credit cards. Often, due to identity mismatch, you might suffer greatly. Be the dispute of any nature, you have the right to fight for it with the credit card issuer. Make sure you dispute in a legal manner and as stated by the FCBA. It is best to talk to an attorney to know more on your rights as a student credit card holder.

Today more and more people use their computers for pretty much everything – from communicating with friends and family to online shopping, investing and banking. This all makes life a lot easier, yet at the same time we open ourselves up to hackers, crackers and various scams.

Online Fraud

These days, stories of online fraud, identity theft and phishing scams appear on the news so often that many of us don’t pay attention anymore. And that is a big mistake. The Association for Payment Clearing Services revealed that in 2007, banking losses due to online fraud totalled £22.6 million. And there were 20,682 reported phishing incidents in the UK in the first half of 2008 alone. Bear in mind that many people choose not to report the crime.

Bank officials urge their customers to be wary of online scams, such as suspicious emails claiming to be from the bank, and to use only a fully protected PC with regularly updated anti-virus software and enabled firewall. These measures are effective, but are not enough. There are dangers where caution and even a regularly updated anti-virus can’t fight.

Auslogics BoostSpeed at http://www.auslogics.com/pcsecurity is not only a computer performance optimization suite, it also includes a number of very useful security applications. It offers advanced protection where anti-virus software can’t help.

Track Eraser

Every time you visit a website or open a file, a record is created on your computer. If someone gets access to this information, they can find out a lot about you – your browsing preferences, which online stores you use, and maybe even something that can jeopardise your reputation or finances. Auslogics Track Eraser protects your privacy by removing all the tracks and history from your computer. Run it on a regular basis to not leave any sensitive information behind.

File Shredder and Disk Wiper

Another danger is deleted files. Simply deleting them doesn’t make them go for good. They are only “forgotten” by your system, but in fact remain somewhere on your hard drive. It’s quite easy to “undelete” them and for them to be used in ways you probably will not be happy to find out about. But if you delete a file, a folder or the Recycle Bin contents with File Shredder, you can be sure that they will be impossible to recover.

Auslogics Disk Wiper works in a very similar way. It also ensures that files cannot be recovered. While File Shredder deletes files and folders, Disk Wiper literally clean-wipes your hard disk free space. Deleting files and erasing traces of them in such a way makes it nearly impossible for hackers to get hold of any sensitive information that they can use to commit fraud or steal your identity.

PC Security

You may wonder how hackers can access your computer. Actually, it’s easier than you think. Windows XP and newer versions include services that make it possible to access your computer remotely and bombard you with spam. Of course, these services were not designed for this purpose, but criminals find them pretty useful. These services are called Remote Registry and Messaging Service. Using Auslogics PC Security helps check whether your firewall is enabled, anti-virus is up to date and your system patched. But most importantly, it disables Remote Registry and Messaging Service, thus protecting you from possible attacks.

No one leaves their house with the front door left wide open. And nobody walks around with their bank account number printed on their T-shirt either. But when it comes to computer security, people are often too careless. The more attention you pay to computer security, the less chance you will be the next online fraud victim.

Download Auslogics BoostSpeed from http://www.auslogics.com/pcsecurity.

Auslogics Software is located in Sydney, Australia. Auslogics helps users to cleanup and optimize their computers with easy-to-use and affordable software products.
http://www.auslogics.com

Having a paper shredder is no longer a luxury for your business or home office. With the epidemic of identity theft, as well as new federal regulations, it is now a necessity. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that over 27 million people have had their identity stolen in the past five years. At the same time, they estimate that billions of dollars have been lost due to corporate espionage. It it just a simple fact, the wrong paper in the wrong hands poses an ever increasing risk to both individuals and businesses. How can you and your business fight this trend? Buy a paper shredder. This article will discuss some of the great benefits to owning a shredder, and what shredder for you and your business.

Peace of Mind: Owning your own paper shredder allows you to feel secure, knowing that your most private and sensitive data will never fall into the wrong hands. How do you know this? Because you can see your most sensitive documents being destroyed into tiny little pieces right before your eyes. Sure, there are services out there that will do your shredding for you. However, between the person who picks up the papers, the truck driver, or the recycling center employee, there are a lot of links in that chain. Are you sure that you can trust them all? Convenience: If you run a larger office, you more than likely have papers that you need to destroy nearly every day. Instead of letting those papers pile up (inviting prying eyes), you should seriously consider letting any employee that regularly handles sensitive documents have their own desk-side paper shredder. This way, they can destroy sensitive information whenever they see fit. This is, of course, ideal for departments that handle confidential documents on a regular basis, such as Human Resources, Accounting, Legal, and Marketing. Compliance: Recent laws have been enacted that require that businesses who are in possession of employee information, information on prospective employees, or personal information derived from consumer reports to completely destroy that information before throwing it away. This includes social security numbers, credit histories, employment histories, and address information. If you are in the healthcare industry, there are specific guidelines to what information you must destroy and the precautions that you need to take to prevent such information from getting into the wrong hands. Nearly every organization is affected by these laws and the failure to be compliant can be extremely costly. In fact, the penalties for non compliance range from civil liability to fines of $500,000 and ten years imprisonment. Cost Reduction: We’ve already discussed the security concerns that go along with leaving your sensitive and confidential documents in the hands of a shredding company. In addition to the peace of mind that you will get from ensuring sensitive information does not leave your facility, shredding your own documents can also save you money. Making a one-time capital investment in a paper shredder can allow you to eliminate the on-going cost of shredding service fees that add up over time.

In the last forty years Pre-Paid Legal Services has become one of the largest companies in the network marketing industry. I will detail the advantages and disadvantages of Pre-Paid Legal, and cover the business opportunity in depth.

First, who or what is Pre-Paid Legal? Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. is a NYSE traded company with its head office located in Ada, Oklahoma. The company started in 1972 after the CEO and founder, Harland C. Stonecipher was in a car accident that left him with a mountain of legislative costs. After studying legal plans that were popular in Europe at the time, he decided to form the company to give assistance to those in need of legal help.

The company sells legal plans, along with identity theft plans, by using the popular network marketing business model that has made companies like Amway and Herbalife so successful.

As an associate, you offer a variety of different plans to consumers. These plans range from personal, to business, to specialty plans for law officers, educators and commercial truck drivers. The plans provide a number of benefits such as preventive legal services, telephone consultation on unlimited personal and business legal issues, document and contract review/preparation, and more. One of the best things that Pre-Paid Legal offers is peace of mind. The peace of mind knowing that you are legally represented and that you are covered in the event that your identity is stolen or misused.

With over 1.6 million members, Pre-Paid Legal is one of the most successful network marketing companies in existence today.

The compensation plan that the Pre-Paid Legal business opportunity offers is one of the strongest compensation plans in the network marketing industry. As an associate you will receive your commissions every day, if you would like. You have complete control as to how your money is dispersed and at what advance level (some associates receive as much as a one year advance in commissions). As with most network marketing companies, you get immediate income when you bring someone into the business. You receive residual income when that person begins to market the products themselves, and when they create a team of associates following the same model. Over time, your residual income far outweighs your own personal efforts and true leverage is created. Generally, most associates earn about $100 for every membership they market.

Now, let’s get to the real truth about Pre-Paid Legal…

The company’s background, the strong compensation plan, and the NYSE clout is great and all; however, with most MLM companies, they preach the traditional, outdated methods of “warm market” and “3 feet” recruiting.

Translated… talk to your friends and family (which is a HUGE mistake unless they are actively looking for a home based business). As well as trying to recruit anyone you come in contact with, which is another mistake, as you DO NOT want everybody in your business. These techniques still work for certain kinds of people, but not for everyone, and that is why so many people in the industry fight to get the results that they are really looking for.

Chasing people down to “sell” them and trying to persuade them as to the “legitimacy” of your product and business opportunity is much less fun and lucrative as speaking to people who already have a direct interest in what you have to offer. This can be can be very frustrating, not to mention highly inefficient.

You have to refine your marketing abilities and efforts. You have to create a system to only talk to people who actually want to join your company.

Once you realize this, and begin to implement correct business “systems”, you can get in front of millions of people every day that are already searching for what you have to offer.

Starting and developing a Pre-Paid Legal business is very, very lucrative when you know how to effectively market yourself and the company. Your success will be determined by the skill-set you develop and the system you implement as a marketer.

Once you figure that out, you will be on the path to unlimited time freedom and unlimited financial success with Pre-Paid Legal.

Whether you’re already with Pre-Paid Legal, thinking about joining, or just curious in general, click here to learn more regarding the truth about Pre-Paid Legal.

Companies spend billions of dollars each year combating spam. Billions more is spent with the loss of productivity, having to purchase additional equipment, software, and man hours filtering through unwanted spam, and fixing problems directly related from spam. Direct effects of spam are the consumption of network and computer resources, data and intellectual property theft, identity theft, infection from virus and malware infection, and more.

When most people think of spam, they are thinking of the unsolicited emails sitting in their inbox that is time consuming to clean up. However, there are many more different types of spam; instant messaging spam, chat spam, newsgroup and forum spam, even cell phone spam, blogs and guestbook spam, video sharing spam, video gaming spam, mail bombing, and non-commercial spam. Email and Internet spam is frustrating and sometimes embarrassing when pornography pops up in front of grandma.

Why would someone want to send out so many annoying messages or pop-ups and what is the benefit for a spammer? A spammer expects total profit and if even only small percentages of people respond or make a purchase from the spam message, the spammer stands to make a bunch of money. Other non-commercial spammers are criminals seeking banking information, committing fraud, and have even lured people to their own kidnappings and murders. Competitors might use spam as a denial of service to your website to flood the viewer of your website with a ton of pop-ups and make it impossible to view the site. This is another malicious way spammers attack.

So what can you do to protect your email and be able to surf the Internet without the unwanted pop-ups and phishing sites stealing your information? There are two solutions; Mozilla Firefox for your web browser and Anti-Spam Software for your email. These two solutions will provide the protection you need without having to worry anymore.

Having a positive Internet and email experience is what everyone wants. Mozilla wants this for everyone too. Mozilla is a non-profit organization who is dedicated to making your online experience incredible. They offer their web browser Firefox free of charge. Firefox is available to all Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms, in over 35 different languages. This web browser has integrated protection from spam, pop-ups, and phishing protection that tells you when you have accessed a website that is looking for information.

Mozilla Firefox is the leading web browser because they care about what the user wants. This browser allows you to personalize it the way you want it. Firefox includes a spell checker and search engine suggestions. It also includes a session restore so when you lose your Internet connection and have to sign online again, Firefox will take you back to the exact webpage from where your session terminated. That way, you don’t have to spend hours finding where you were before. Firefox even has accessibility features that integrate with Microsoft’s accessibility features in Windows for people with physical impairments to easily surf the web without having too many keystrokes to get to the site they want.
The best quality of Mozilla’s Firefox is the protection. Unlike Internet Explorer, Firefox has a button to clear private data so the browser doesn’t keep personal information. It also automatically updates itself. This is much better than having to go to Microsoft’s website to install the latest security updates and patches.
Anti-Spam Software can be found at www.antispampage.com. This useful tool provides the email protection you need with a user-friendly interface, which makes it simple to setup. Anti-spam software is learning software. This means, you teach it what is spam and what is not. Eventually, you will not be receiving anymore spam in your inbox. This software will block incoming spam before it even reaches your inbox and automatically delete malicious viruses. Anti-spam is compatible with Windows platforms 98, ME, 2000, and XP. 24-hour technical support is provided and 100% satisfaction or you are entitled to a full refund. Millions of users worldwide are using Anti-spam software and they couldn’t be happier.
Don’t allow unwanted spam, pop-ups, and phishing sites ruin your computing experience. Using a smart web browser like Mozilla Firefox and Anti-spam Software are the best ingredient for total protection on your computer.

Putting the axe to spam, viruses, malware, and other unwanted annoyances are only a couple steps away if you have the right tools. But until then you join millions of others fighting a losing war.

Think about this: Is a simple antivirus application enough to protect your PC against all threats?

No longer are viruses the only threat on the internet. In recent years other threats have evolved which include spyware, adware, hacking, identity theft, information theft, pop-ups and the loss of information.

Let’s begin with the basics. We all need to protect our PC in the same way we protect our home, car and bank account. We wouldn’t give a stranger the keys to our car, home or bank account now would we. If you don’t protect your PC it is like giving the keys to a stranger and letting him/her have full access to your PC. Once the stranger has the keys they can snoop around and take whatever they want. I know, your thinking how can they do this, my computer is in my house and my doors are locked. Well, today you can be anywhere in the world and access someone’s computer via the internet. Since the introduction of cable modems and DSL everyone’s PC is online all the time and accessible.

Why do I need to protect my PC, I don’t keep any important information on it? Ask yourself a couple of questions.

1. Do I bank online?

2. Do I shop online?

3. Do I create documents, spreadsheets?

4. Do I let other people use my PC?

5. Do I download music, files onto my PC?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then your PC is vulnerable. If you bank online then you are sending personal confidential information to your bank via the Internet. For Example: Let’s say you are infected with spyware and you are typing in your account number plus password. A spyware installation can record key strokes and then send them off to a site on the internet. Now the person who setup the site has your account number and password to your bank. Here is one more example, if you answered yes to I let other people use my pc, here is what happens. The other person decides that they like this new cool piece of software. They download and double click on the exe, msi or whatever installs the software. The adware, spyware or virus installs. Now the infection is installed and now it can start stealing confidential information or cause havoc on your PC. You get onto the PC as always, since you don’t know this has happened and start doing what you always do, type documents, go to chat rooms, do your banking online, reconcile your banking with quicken and all this time your confidential information is stolen and you are completely unaware that this occurred.

The million dollar question, what do I do? Well, you can follow this approach.

1. Install a Spyware application and install and configure correctly. If you already have spyware application installed make sure it is up to date and make sure that is configured properly.

2. Install an Adware application and install and configure properly. If you already have adware application installed make sure it is up to date and make sure that is configured properly.

3. Install an AntiVirus application and install and configure properly. If you already have antivirus application installed make sure it is up to date and make sure that is configured properly.

4. Install backup software, why because if something does get through your defenses or delete something by accident you always have a way of retrieving the information. You should try to backup your system at least every other day.

5. Install Encryption software. This software will encrypt files like word docs, spreadsheets, banking file on quicken. This way if someone does steal your information they will not be able to read it.

6. Install a Firewall. The Firewall can either be software or hardware based. I would install both especially if you bring your laptop with you and connect to the internet at different locations. The Firewall will block hackers trying to scan your system while you are on the Internet.

Many people have these applications installed but they do not configure them correctly. Just installing the application does not mean that the application is working properly to stop the threat/infection. On some applications you need to configure the setting to make the application work the way it was designed to. Find out how to configure and install the software properly either by reading a how to book or getting someone to help. If you already have the application installed make sure it is up to date and make sure that is configured properly. All of the software needs to be up to date and kept current. As new threats are release on the internet, all applications will need the current updates to fight these threats.

If you would like to find out if you’re PC is protected you can take the test. This will not harm your PC it just checks for vulnerabilities and lets you know if you passed or failed. The application is a single exe and DOES NOT NEED TO BE INSTALLED. All you need to do is run the test application and follow the instructions. http://www.mweffa.com/urltrak/control/redirect.php?id=273
